What is BMR?

BMR stands for Basal Metabolic Rate and it is the amount of energy (calories) your body needs to function while at rest. It is the minimum amount of energy your body needs to keep vital functions like breathing and circulation going. Knowing your BMR can help you determine how many calories you should be eating each day to maintain or lose weight.

What is BMR Calculator?

A BMR Calculator is a tool used to calculate an individual’s Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). BMR is the amount of energy (calories) the body needs to maintain basic functions such as breathing, circulation, and digestion. Knowing your BMR can help you determine how many calories you need to consume to maintain, lose, or gain weight.

How to Calculate BMR?

The most accurate way to calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is to use the Mifflin-St Jeor equation. This equation takes into account your age, gender, height, and weight to determine your BMR. The equation is as follows: For Men: BMR = (10 x weight in kg) + (6.25 x height in cm) – (5 x age in years) + 5 For Women: BMR = (10 x weight in kg) + (6.25 x height in cm) – (5 x age in years) – 161 For example, if a 30-year-old woman who is 5’5″ (165 cm) and weighs 130 lbs (59 kg), her BMR would be: BMR = (10 x 59) + (6.25 x 165) – (5 x 30) – 161 BMR = 590 + 1031.25 – 150 – 161 BMR = 1260.25
