What is Total Daily Energy Expenditure?

Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is the total amount of energy (calories) that a person needs to expend in a day to maintain their current weight. It is calculated by taking into account a person’s basal metabolic rate (BMR), physical activity level, and the thermic effect of food. Knowing your TDEE can help you to create a diet and exercise plan that is tailored to your individual needs.

What is Total Daily Energy Expenditure Calculator?

A Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) Calculator is a tool used to estimate the total amount of energy (calories) a person needs to consume in order to maintain their current weight. It takes into account a person’s age, gender, height, weight, and activity level to calculate an individual’s TDEE.

How to Calculate Total Daily Energy Expenditure?

Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is the total number of calories you burn in a day. It is calculated by taking into account your basal metabolic rate (BMR), physical activity level, and the thermic effect of food. To calculate your TDEE, you will need to know your BMR, which is the number of calories your body burns at rest. You can calculate your BMR using the Harris-Benedict equation. Once you have your BMR, you will need to factor in your physical activity level. If you are sedentary, multiply your BMR by 1.2. If you are lightly active, multiply your BMR by 1.375. If you are moderately active, multiply your BMR by 1.55. If you are very active, multiply your BMR by 1.725. If you are extra active, multiply your BMR by 1.9. Finally, you will need to factor in the thermic effect of food. This is the number of calories your body burns digesting and metabolizing food. It is typically 10% of your TDEE. To calculate your TDEE, add your BMR to your physical activity level and the thermic effect of food. For example, if your BMR is 1500 calories and you are moderately active, your TDEE would be (1500 x 1.55) + (1500 x 0.10) = 2325 calories.
